Truckee resident authors political book

TRUCKEE, Calif. — Truckee resident Janicke Stramer recently published “U.S. Foreign Policy and Religion During the Cold War and the War on Terror” with Edwin Mellen Press. It is now available for purchase at www.mellenpress.com.

Stramer is currently in the second year her doctoral program at University of Nevada, Reno in the political science department. Her major is international relations focusing on international security and the Middle East and North Africa. She plans on doing her dissertation field research on location in Tunisia among other places, when she has finished her required course work at UNR in the summer of 2013.

She received her masters degree from the American Graduate School of International Relations and Diplomacy in Paris, France, where she graduated Magna Cum Lauda.

Stramer is already well known on the international relations circuit. She has presented research at international academic conferences such as the International Studies Association and the International Political Science Association conferences in Japan, Chile and Turkey, as well as at national venues such as New York, Chicago, and Los Angeles.

Her new book covers the topic of American foreign policy and religion, comparing the presidencies of Harry S. Truman and George W. Bush, exploring the similarities of the cold war and the war on terror.

The cover of her book was created in collaboration with her mother, award-winning local watercolor artist Eva S. Nichols, who also assisted in proof-reading the book. It was natural for Stramer to turn to her mother for the artistic part of the process.

Stramer was previously published with a chapter, The Language of War: George W. Bush’s Discursive Practices in Securitizing the Western Value System in the “War on Terror,” in the compilation “The New Order of War,” edited by Bob Brecher. This book is available on Amazon.
