TRUCKEE, Calif. and#8212; Sacramento area firefighters invited all sworn firefighters to participate in Sacramento's annual 9/11 Memorial Climb. This event is being held to honor the 343 Firefighters of FDNY who paid the ultimate sacrifice at the World Trade Center on Sept. 11, 2001.

and#8220;For most people, 9/11 is about a day of incredible tragedy due to terrorism. But for me, it is about the sacrifice, bravery, and courage of the FDNY. They lost 343 members in the collapse of the towers. We see images of all the people running away from the towers, meanwhile, firefighters are willingly advancing into the buildings, not just because and#8216;it is our job,' it is because we are willing to put ourselves between danger and the people who need help, even when facing impossible odds,and#8221; said Squaw Valley's Travis Smith, firefighter and paramedic. and#8220;As a firefighter, I think we all want to pay our respect to our fallen brothers and their families on this day and I think this event in Sacramento is a great way to honor them.and#8221;
This year's Climb will be held at the and#8220;Renaissance Towerand#8221; located in downtown Sacramento at 0800, Tuesday, Sept. 11.
