Village Notes: Whatand#8217;s happening in our community

INCLINE VILLAGE, Nev. — Are you ready for the return of football season? Well, ready or not, it is back. But at least football can entertain us during the shoulder season at Tahoe. If you want to eliminate some of the campaign ads and just enjoy football, the solution is to head over to one of our local establishments offering football specials. No campaign ads and you can see it all without ads!

Please remember on Tuesday, Sept. 11, to pause and remember Patriots Day.

The 2012-13 Parasol AmeriCorps team arrived this week and Parasol hosted a welcome luncheon for the 17 volunteers and guests. Thanks to Manny Sylvester for not only welcoming the new volunteers to our community but also administering their pledge.

Don’t forget Saturday, Sept. 8 at the Tahoe Regional Park is the Dog Day in the Park event. It includes a raffle and you do not have to be present to win one of the great prizes. For information call Pam at 530-546-4770 or email dogdayinthepark.tahoe@gmail. The event is from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and is free. Rabies vaccines will be available along with micro-chipping too.

And of course Incline’s favorite event for dog owners, is the Dog Days of Fall on Saturday, Sept. 22 at the Burnt Cedar Pool. Don’t worry as the pool is already closed for the season so swimmers will only be four-legged. This is a great event to watch even if you don’t have a dog. It really is the most fun event in the village.

Have a bowling team and want to show your stuff? Tahoe Family Solutions annual Bowlathon is from noon-5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 29, at Bowl Incline. For information or to sign up call Amy at 775-298-0044. Individuals can sign up too.

On Saturday, Sept. 15 at Silver Strikes Lane in Gardnerville is a 9-pin No Tap tournament. Everyone is invited to take part as they are raising funds for the Bowlers to Veterans link. The event is chaired by Ronnie Rector.

And congrats to Ronnie Rector too. She will have two paintings entered in the Sierra Watercolor Society’s annual Balloon Race Art Show at the Wilbur May Museum in Reno Sept. 7 through Sept. 9. The museum is located near the arboretum at Rancho San Rafael Park. Help Ronnie out by voting as they have a people’s choice award. Good luck Ronnie.

Happy Anniversary to Marilyn and Art Berliner on Sept. 10.

Birthdays to celebrate this week include: Madeline Blair on Sept. 6; Jennifer Faucher, Marvin Joanis and Serena Quarelli on Sept. 8; Laurie Currier, Justin Bluhm and Tom Mancuso on Sept. 9; Dave Jenks on Sept. 10; Bob Segesman on Sept. 11 and Stevie Walton on Sept. 12. Happy Birthday!

This week the deal and steal is at another new local business. Tunnel Creek Cafe. This is the little building used for the shuttle for mountain bikes at Tunnel Creek Road off Highway 28. Outside dining or inside seating available to “breakfast stuff” along with coffee, sandwiches (veggie too) as well as beer and soda. Great place to grab a quick lunch or bite before hitting the beach or a trail. Or make it a stop for your workday lunch break.

As always send in your birthdays, anniversaries and news, along with the best deals and steals you can find, to jeanmeick@aol.com.
