CRYSTAL BAY, Nev. and#8212; Black Uhuru is one of the better known Jamaican reggae bands and its lineup has included some of its greatest stars.
Founded in Kingston in 1972, the one constant is that Duckie Simpson has always been the band leader. He plays now with Andrew Bees and Kaye Stahr.
Former members include Peter Toshand#8217;s rhythm section, Sly Dunbar and Robbie Shakespeare, Junior Reid, Michael Rose, Puma Jones and Don Carlos.
Uhuru, which is Swahili for freedom, won the first Grammy Award for Best Reggae Album.
