North Tahoe XC | McDermotts, McElravey sweep top 3 at Warrior Warpath

One meet into the cross-country season, the North Tahoe boys have proven themselves as serious contenders among the Division III ranks.

Competing in the Warrior Warpath Invitational in Zephyr Cove on Friday, the Lakers won the varsity boys' race in dominant fashion, sweeping the top three spots individually to post a low score of 28 points to runner-up Incline's 76 and third-place Spring Creek's 110.

In a field of 84 athletes, junior Noah McDermott claimed the win in a time of 18 minutes, 37 seconds over the hilly, 3.1-mile course — which included a photo-worthy water crossing.

Senior teammate and brother Sean McDermott finished second just 4 seconds behind, in 18:41, while fellow North Tahoe senior Patrick McElravey was third another 4 seconds back, in 18:45. Tanner Boone of Fallon was the next runner across the line, finishing fourth in 19:15.

North Tahoe juniors Shane Christian (19:41) and Peter Holmes (19:47) finished 11th and 13th, respectively, to round out the Lakers' top five scores (the number used toward the team score).

Among other North Tahoe runners, Tyler Olk was 21st in 20:20, Dominic Antonucci was 27th in 21:04, Colin Spencer finished in 22:14 and Forrest Smith in 22:38.

In the girls' race, North Tahoe sophomore Tara Gallant led the way with a third-place finish in 23:39, while senior teammate Emily Nall placed ninth in 25:09 and Camille Joubert finished in 27:41.

Jody Meads of Fallon won in 22:11, and Katrina Breitcaupt of Incline was second in 22:37.

The Incline girls won as a team, posting a low score of 19 points to Spring Creek's 55 points and Fernley's 74. North Tahoe did not have enough runners to record a team score.

North Tahoe's Sophia Tallarigo won the JV girls' race in 20:02, and the Lakers' Julien Bordes won the JV boys' race in 16:51. The JV course was 2.3 miles.

UP NEXT: North Tahoe will host the North Tahoe Mountain Motivational on Friday, Sept. 14.
