Village Notes: Whatand#8217;s happening in our community

INCLINE VILLAGE, Nev. — I know our local businesses would like to see the hustle and bustle of summer continue right into ski season but it is nice to go around town and catch up with locals who have been hiding out most of the summer.

Don’t forget that our local bowlers will be down in Gardnerville starting at 11 a.m. Sunday at Silver Strike Lanes for the Bowlers for Veterans tournament. Lots of contests and spectators are welcome to cheer during this 9-pin no tap event.

It is definitely the end of summer when Tahoe SAFE Alliance and Project MANA announce the theme for the annual Chocolate, Wine and Roses festival. The theme this year is One Night in Havana. Save the date and get tickets early for this event held on Saturday, Nov. 5. For information or to purchase tickets visit www.tahoesafealliance.org.

Be sure to make Incline’s favorite event for dog owners, the Dog Days of Fall, on Saturday, Sept. 22 at the Burnt Cedar Pool. The pool is already closed for the season but the splashing and fun never ends with all the four-legged swimmers. For information contact the Recreation Center at 775-832-1300.

Another bowling event is the annual Tahoe Family Solutions Bowlathon from noon-5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 29, at Bowl Incline. For information or to sign up call Amy at 775-298-0044. Individuals as well as teams can sign up.

Ronnie Rector’s painting entitled Yipes, Stripes won 1st place in the Sierra Watercolor Society’s annual Balloon Race Art Show at the Wilbur May Museum in Reno. Way to go Ronnie.

Congratulations to Julie Malkin-Manning and Darin Manning. They were married on Saturday, Sept. 8, at 3:14 p.m. at Skylandia Park. In case you wondered about the time, Darin is a math teacher.

Also congrats to Suzanne and RJ Webb who will celebrate their anniversary on Sept. 19.

A few birthdays to celebrate this week: Holden Cushing on Sept. 12; Jack Coughlin and Amy Hanna on Sept. 15; Justin Bluhm on Sept. 16; Barbara Welch on Sept. 17; Kaelynn Ferguson on Sept. 18; Caitlin Blum, Lola Hane and Shelly Wright on Sept. 19 and Flora Todt on Sept. 20. Happy Birthday!

For real deals and steals, you simply cannot beat attending soccer, football, tennis, volleyball or any other fall sporting event at Incline High School. I encourage everyone to cheer for our local student athletes and enjoy one of the best activities of fall.

As always send in your birthdays, anniversaries and news, along with the best deals and steals you can find, to jeanmeick@aol.com.
