Faith Factor | North Tahoe Hebrew Congregation invites you to High Holiday Services

TAHOE/TRUCKEE, Calif. — Join the North Tahoe Hebrew Congregation, Rabbi Meredith Cahn, and Hazzan Jonathan Rosenthal, for High Holiday services. NTHC is pleased Cantorial Soloist Jonathan Rosenthal will be the Hazzan for this year’s High Holiday services at NTHC, leading the services alongside Rabbi Meredith Cahn. He is the great-grandson of the famous Cantor Yossele Rosenblatt.

This High Holidays will again be a wonderful experience and a time of strong community spirit and involvement across the NTHC membership, Community guests and out of town visitors.

As fall commences, Jews worldwide look forward to the Days of Awe: The Jewish High Holidays of Rosh HaShanah and Yom Kippur. Rosh HaShanah translates as “Head of the Year” and is the celebration of the Jewish New Year. Yom Kippur is the “Day of Atonement” and is observed by fasting, prayer and repentance.

Rosh HaShanah services begin Sunday night, Sept. 16 at 7 p.m. Morning services begin Monday, Sept. 17 at 10 a.m., ending with Tashlich on Lake Tahoe at the Tahoe Vista pier. Children’s service (for pre-readers and early readers) is Monday at 2 p.m.

Second Day Rosh HaShanah services will be held in conjunction with Temple Bat Yam from Lake Tahoe South Shore and will begin at 10 a.m. at Spooner Lake. Bring dairy (no-chicken) potluck dish to share and your own chair for sitting.

Yom Kippur begins Tuesday, Sept. 25 at 7 p.m. with Kol Nidre. Feel free to come between 6-7 p.m. to light a Yikzor candle in memory of a loved one. Morning services are Wednesday, Sept. 26 at 10 a.m. Children’s services are at 2 p.m. Afternoon services/Yizkor/Mincha/Neilah starting at 4 p.m.
