Truckee XC | Flora third at Nevada Twilight Classic

The Truckee Wolverine returned to competition with a rare prime time race under the lights last Saturday at the Nevada Twilight Classic held at Shadow Mountain Park in Sparks.

The competition included most of the large schools of Northern Nevada and many programs from Northern California. The event, hosted by the University of Nevada, was run over 4 kilometers (2.4 miles) of mostly dirt trails.

On the girls’ side, Truckee sophomore Skyler Flora moved up steadily throughout the early going and wound up a solid third (15:55) to lead her team to a 12th-place finish. Alisha Luna of Klamath Union (15:36) was the individual winner while Del Oro (Loomis, CA) won the team title.

Flora was followed by a good grouping of teammates as Hannah Halvorsen (18:24), Ruby Wood (18:27), Olivia Yale (18:33) and Kyla Burrill (18:38) all finished within 14 seconds of each other. Michaela Welch (20:38) rounded out the varsity results.

The Truckee boys finished seventh overall, led by 12th- and 13th-place finishes from freshman Andrew Clusserath (14:03) and sophomore Nathan Ariza (also 14:03). Jordan Gardenas of Reno (12:59) and Placer High took individual and team honors.

Other Truckee results included Alex Kopytko (15:02), Noah Oberitter (15:19), Nick Morgan (15:51), Colin Duerlington (16:03), Jennar Tresan (16:22) and Jared Murphy (16:23).

The Wolverines return to action this Friday at the North Tahoe Kiwanis Invitational at 3 p.m. at North Tahoe High School.
