Golf tourney hits home

Talk about improvement.

Up-and-coming Viking golfer Francesca Franco has knocked 66 strokes off her game in a year's time.

Franco turned in South Tahoe's lowest round of 117 on Wednesday as the Vikings hosted a tournament at Tahoe Paradise Golf Course in Meyers. The 117 is seven shots down from Franco's previous best of 124, which she turned in at a Spring Creek tournament last week.

Lowry won the tournament with a score of 371, just two strokes ahead of Elko's 373. Spring Creek finished third at an even 400.

Individually, the best score belonged to Elko's Kaily Beatty, who shot an 80. Cortney Kiesel of Lowry finished in second with an 83, while Brittany Evans of Fernley took third with an 89.

South Tahoe's Jessica Robberson shot 134 and Emily Aminian 140 to round out the Tahoe scoring.

The girls play in Dayton on Thursday.
