Truckee Bandits come up short at Fallon

The Truckee Bandits of the Sierra Youth Football League played a tough game but came up short, 14-0, on the road against the Fallon Greenwave this past Saturday.

The game started off with Truckee kicking off to Fallon. The Fallon runner received the ball after a good kick from Aidan Powers and ran around the left side, eluded tackles from the multiple Truckee tacklers and ran the ball back for a 65-yard touchdown.

Fallon made the extra point and led 7-0 after the first 20 seconds.

Truckee took over and behind stellar line play by Tait Nicholas, Jared Gur, Caige Maran, Sean McMullen, Ricki Espinoza, Miles Kelly-Caruthers and Jessie Espinoza moved the ball to the Fallon 25. During the drive Ronan Collins, Jake Solberg and Powers made good runs to keep the drive alive. Unfortunately, the drive stalled and Fallon took the ball back.

The rest of the half was a defensive battle with neither teams scoring. The half ended with Fallon leading 7-0. Truckee’s defense was led by Will Atkinson, Stephen Borden, Cooper Smart, Jessie Espinoza, Ezra Scharp, Casey Slusher, McMullen, Nicholas and Solberg.

Truckee received the ball to start the second half and moved into Fallon territory behind a tough run by Atkinson carrying multiple Greenwave defenders on a 15-yard run. Drake Johnson and Quinn Krommenhoek made good blocks to aid in Atkinson’s run. Again, Truckee’s drive stalled and Fallon took over on its 30-yard line.

Truckee’s defense held Fallon to no points in the third quarter and the fourth quarter started with the score still 7-0 Fallon, which scored early in the fourth quarter to take a 14-0 lead.

Truckee moved the ball into Fallon’s territory behind runs from Collins and Powers. Fallon’s defense again came up tough and Truckee turned the ball over on downs. Fallon made one last drive with Atkinson stopping the Greenwave runner after a run of 30 yards.

Truckee’s defense then made a tough defensive stand with good plays being made by Joey Green, Aiden England. Truckee (1-2) plays Dayton at Sparks High School on Saturday, Sept. 15.
