The South Tahoe boys junior varsity soccer team met up with a couple of eastern Nevada teams in Fallon last weekend. In the early game, the Vikings met the Elko Indians and won 2-0 in a tough battle.
The Viking didn't wait long to take the lead. In the second minute, Danny Teran crossed to Tim Mueller, who headed it in the net. Mueller scored again 15 minutes into the game with a breakaway ball from 30 yards out, beating the Indian defense. A tough Vikings defense of Jack Kixmiller, Derek Chavez, Enrique Campuzano and Chris Medina held onto the shutout while Alvaro Orozco held down goalie duties.
The Vikings went on to defeat Spring Creek 1-0 later that day. It was a defensive battle, but the Vikings got a goal just before half when Mueller broke away for the lone goal of the game. Vikings midfielders Bryce Burrow, Chuy Vasquez, Danny Teran, Gabby Martinez and Alec Bowman dominated the field.
"This team is coming together early and looking solid for our future," assistant coach Bill Spicer said in e-mail.
The Vikings travel to Truckee on Saturday for a doubleheader at noon and 3 p.m.
