On September 10, 2012, Larry Pesetski passed from this Earth peacefully in his sleep. A longtime Oakhurst resident, Larry was a well-liked and highly respected teacher and coach at Yosemite High School for over 20 years.He was born on April 3 in 1946 in LA and attended St. Francis High School in La Canada. Larry earned BA and MA degrees in history and education at UCLA, where he was a member of the football team.In 1984 he left his position at Agoura High School to become a history teacher at Yosemite High School, where he was instrumental in starting the International Baccalaureate program, the EAST program, and the multimedia classes. As the football team’s defensive coordinator in 1984, he led a group that had 7 shutouts and which allowed the fewest points in California.In the 80's his softball team won back-to-back CIF championships and his girls’ basketball team made it to the state playoffs. Larry also taught community college history classes for many years. He supervised student teacher educational classes at Sierra Nevada College in Incline Village in Nevada.Larry will be remembered for his doting care of his dogs Linus, Snoopy, Woody, Patty, Snowcap, and Marcie, his love of the outdoors and backpacking, his talent as a photographer, and his collection of classic cars. In 2005, he published a photography book, A Journey to Lake Tahoe andamp; Beyond. Larry was currently working on a book, photos of Yosemite National Park. He will also be remembered for his companionship in entertaining his friends on many golf trips.Larry’s passion for living life large, his animated personality, and his generosity to friends and strangers alike made unforgettable imprints on all who knew him. In his last days he was especially grateful to his care givers at St. Agnes Hospital.Larry’s parents, Steve and Jean Pesetski, preceded him in death.
