Incline cross country | Girls second at North Tahoe Kiwanis Invite

Led by a sixth-place individual finish by freshman Stephanie Homola, the Incline girls cross-country team finished second out of nine varsity teams in the annual North Tahoe Kiwanis Invitational this past Friday.

Homola recorded her top-10 finish in a field of 107 runners from across Northern Nevada and California. She posted a time of 26:18.53, while Jody Meads of Mammoth took the overall win in 24:18.09 over the 5,300-meter course.

Incline junior Sophia Mourelatos (28:05.78), Hannah Laurie (28:11.03), and Kate Ballan (28:14.12) finished 16th, 17th and 18th, respectively, while Molly Franklin (29:12.09) rounded out the top five scores with a 29th place finish. Haley Kennedy (29:16.56) was 30th.

With their top five runners all placing among the top 30, the Incline girls posted a score of 53 points to Ponderosa’s winning score of 44 points. Truckee was third with 77 points, followed by Bret Harte (78) and Atwater (118).

Out of 141 runners in the varsity boys’ race, Incline junior Evan Vomund led the Highlanders with a 12th place finish in a time of 22:32.46.

North Tahoe’s boys swept the top three en route to the team win, as Noah McDermott posted a winning time of 20:53.91, Patrick McElravey was second in 21:23.28 and Sean McDermott was third in 21:23.56.

Incline senior Levi Dodge was 16th in 22:49.15, and teammate Daniel Baron was 27th in 23:25.28. Will Cory finished in 28:07.18 as the Highlanders did not have enough runners (five) to record a team score.

As a team, North Tahoe won with a score of 43 points to runner-up Truckee’s 81 and Elko’s 117.

In the sophomore boys race, Incline’s Matthew Hanna and Dylan Smith swept the top two spots, posting times of 20:23.18 and 20:35.25, respectively, on the 4,350-meter course. Incline freshman Julia Golimbik was fourth in the girls frosh/soph race in 25:16.91.

Incline boys also swept the top three places in the freshmen race, as Owen Graffis won in 19:25.22, Josh Lewis was second in 19:26.09 and Ryan Eppolito was third in 20:22.28.
