North Tahoe Rams host talented Reno squad

The North Tahoe Rams Pee Wee and Mitey Mite teams both played their home openers on Saturday in back-to-back battles against Reno’s Blue Squads.

The day was enhanced by two first-time events for the Rams: full concessions throughout the day and Incline Middle School’s Kayla Smothers’ outstanding performances of the National Anthem prior to both games.

Regarding the games, Rams Pee Wee and Mitey Mite head coaches Scott Wilderman and Kurt Frankenberg agreed there must be something in the water on that end of town. Speaking as the Rams Association President.

“Reno typically fields multiple teams at each level, and they roster their kids according to residential zip code,” said Wilderman, speaking as the Rams’ association president. “The Blue teams are always very well prepared and stacked with great athletes. Both our teams surprised the heck out of them with how well and hard we played. We gave them a real run in both contests.

“I’m so proud of how tough and talented every kid is on both our teams. They all played great, and proved the Rams can play with anyone at any level. Nobody will take us for granted this year after our showings against the Reno teams.

“The day was a huge overall success and we’re turning this program from just football games to real events with something for everyone. The cheerleaders were great and have really enhanced our program.”

UP NEXT: The Mitey Mites host the Sparks Steelers this Saturday, Sept. 22, at noon while the Pee Wees host Fallon immediately following, at 2 p.m. The games will be played at Incline High School. For more information and the full season schedule, visit www.northtahoepopwarner.com.
