Police warn of phone scam

South Lake Tahoe police have received information about a scam to access retiree's financial information.

During the scam, a person falsely claims to be a representative from the gas company and offers to set up an appointment to review the customer's financial records, according to a statement from the city. The person then claims they can lower the gas bill if they can review the financial documents.

Southwest Gas will never send anyone out to review personal financial information of customers, according to the statement.

The city recommends people receiving a phone call of this nature should not give any information and should contact the police department at 530- 542-6100.
