Fifth annual K-9 Trails this weekend

The South Lake Tahoe Police Canine Association will host its fifth annual K-9 Trials this Friday and Saturday.

About 50 K-9 teams from police departments from throughout California and Nevada are expected to compete in the competition.

The narcotics trials will be held on Friday, Sept. 21, at the Royal Valhalla Motor Lodge. This portion of the event is closed to the public.

The patrol dog competition, which is free and open to the public, will be held at the Babe Ruth Little League Field at the corner of Lake Avenue and Rufus Allen Boulevard on Saturday beginning at 8 a.m.

As a result of the community support received by the nonprofit association in past years, the police department was able to purchase a new agitator suit six months ago and a second K-9, Argo, two years ago. Donations for this year's event will assist SLTPCA with the cost of hosting the event, the purchase of much needed equipment and additional training for our K-9 teams, according to a statement from the association.
