Tahoe Douglas Fire Protection District will donate a total of $10,700 from its health insurance consultant to local nonprofits.
The money comes from its consultant, LGB Advisors, which has decided to donate insurance carrier bonuses to charities in the name of its clients instead of keeping the money for itself.
Of the amount being distributed, $1,700 will go to Tahoe Douglas Senior Center; $1,700 to the George Whittell High School Boosters Club, $5,000 to the Northern Nevada Children's Cancer Foundation; $1,700 to the Douglas County Sheriff's Advisory Council; and $600 to the Young at Heart Senior Citizens Club.
"Shopping for and negotiating health insurance can be an agonizing process for any employer, but through our partnership with LBG we have been able secure a good insurance package for our employees; and rollover the normal the industry standard incentives to our community charities. Win-win," Tahoe Douglas Fire Chief Ben Sharit stated.
