SODA SPRINGS, Calif. and#8212; Donner Trail Elementary School was placed on precautionary lockdown for about an hour Thursday afternoon while law enforcement searched for a suspect in the area, officials said.
According to a press release from Switchback Public Relations + Marketing, the Truckee Police Department contacted Tahoe Truckee Unified School District Superintendent Robert Leri at about 1:30 p.m. Thursday to request the school be put on lockdown due to California Highway Patrol and police activity in Soda Springs.
The school, located in Kingvale, was on lockdown until 2:40 p.m., when Truckee Police dispatch advised Leri the suspect had been detained.
During the lockdown, students and teachers followed established procedures, according to the press release. Students either read or were read to by their teachers during the lockdown. School release and transportation took place at regular times.
