INCLINE VILLAGE, Nev. — Dr. Benjamin D. Santer, one of the world’s pre-eminent climatologists, has said he would trade all the accolades he’s received in his impressive career in exchange for the opportunity to present his research on human-induced climate change to a patient audience — an audience that would listen to all the facts before making judgments about the reality of a “discernible human influence” on climate.Next month, at a gathering sponsored by Sierra Business Council and Capital Public Radio, he’ll have the chance to make that presentation locally. This event will take place on October 16 from 6:30-9:30 p.m. at the Tahoe Center for Environmental Sciences in Incline Village on the campus of Sierra Nevada College. The evening begins with a reception with Dr. Santer, including appetizers and a no-host bar. His talk will be followed by a Qandamp;A. This event is limited to just 100 people, so please RSVP right away if you’d like to attend: sierrabusiness.eventbrite.com. A $5 to $10 donation is requested.Dr. Santer is a climatologist with the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. He has been awarded a MacArthur Fellowship, was inducted into the National Academy of Sciences and is considered one of the world's pre-eminent climatologists.Sierra Business Council is a member-based organization that fosters thriving communities throughout the Sierra Nevada via “on the ground” local projects that promote, develop and amplify the area’s social, natural and economic capital.Capital Public Radio is a nonprofit, non-commercial membership organization serving approximately 475,000+ listeners in the Sacramento and San Joaquin Valleys, Sierra Nevada and Northern Nevada — principally through KXJZ 90.9 (NPR) and KXPR 88.9 (Classical/Jazz); KUOP (NPR) 91.3 in Stockton; and KKTO (NPR) 90.5 in Tahoe City/Reno.Capital Public Radio is the exclusive, in-market NPR affiliate in the Central Valley, as well as the Region’s only Classical and Jazz music broadcaster.
