Early voting under way in California; special election section coming Friday

TRUCKEE, Calif. - Early voting began Monday in California, allowing any registered voter the opportunity to vote in a polling place setting prior to Election Day.

According to the California Secretary of State, the practice is especially convenient for voters who believe they will not be able to vote at their polling place on Election Day.

The town of Truckee will hold early voting at Town Hall, where Nevada County residents can use an electronic voting machine to cast their ballot or drop off their vote-by-mail ballots. Town Hall is located at 10183 Truckee Airport Road. Early voting is open through Nov. 5, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. - closed for lunch, noon to 1 p.m.

For North Shore residents in Placer County, the only early voting location is at the Placer County Elections Office, located at 2956 Richardson Drive in Auburn, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The deadline to register to vote for the 2012 presidential election is Monday, Oct. 22. Voters may register to vote, find their polling place and read election results at the following elections websites for Nevada and Placer counties: and
