The boys soccer team traveled to the central Nevada desert Saturday to take on a couple of eastern Nevada's top teams. In the morning game, the Vikings took on the Elko Indians.
Elko came out with a huge dominating defense, but the Viking defense of Chris Medina, Jesus Tapia, Derek Chavez, Jack Kixmiller and Christian Navarro stood even taller. South Tahoe's defense along with goalkeeper Alvaro Orozco pitched a shutout in both weekend games.
Diego Garcia opened the scoring in the first minute on a cross from Danny Teran. Garcia added another goal, this time unassisted, in the ninth minute for the hard fought 2-0 win.
"I am so proud of how these boys are playing as a unit and really focused as their season winds down and they compete to stay atop the league standings," coach Bill Spicer said in email.
The Vikings took on the home team, the Fallon Greenwave, in the afternoon. In a game dominated by defense, and the midfield, the Vikings were able to pull out a 2-0 victory with goals by Kixmiller and Garcia. Midfielders Gabby Martinez, Bryce Burrow, Chuy Vasquez, Teran and Alec Bowman. Teran and Martin Jimenez Roles added assists. Orozco held down the shutout in goal.
The Vikings will travel to Fallon Saturday to face Lowry at 10:30 a.m. and Spring Creek at 1:30 p.m.
