North Tahoe cross country | Boys capture win at Pacific Grove Invite

The North Tahoe cross country team continued its successful season with a couple of top finishes at the Pacific Grove (Calif.) Invitational this past Saturday, as the boys captured the win and the girls finished third.

Competing against seven California schools, the Laker boys posted a winning high score of 40 points to runner-up King City's 23. Bret Harte finished third with 22 points.

Once again, North Tahoe junior Noah McDermott led the Laker contingent, winning the 5,000-meter junior boys race in a time of 16:57 - the third-fastest time on the day.

Teammate Shane Christian finished second in the junior race in a time of 17:28, while Peter Holmes was seventh in 18:00, Brandon Hackett was 11th in 18:38 and Dominic Antonucci 12th in 19:03.s

Representing the Lakers in the senior race - each grade had its own separate race - Patrick McElravey posted a third-place finish in 17:03. Edgar Bonilla of King City won the race in 16:38. North Tahoe's Sean McDermott finished 13th in 18:26.

North Tahoe's Julien Bordes took the overall win in the freshmen boys race, finishing in a time of 18:30. Teammate Cam Goldstone was seventh in 19:40, Jackson Shaw eighth in 19:52, Ryan Heisinger 15th in 21:33 and Kobe Hudson 17th in 21:53.

In the sophomore race, James Palacio led the Lakers with a third-place finish in 18:44. Juniors Forrest Smith (20:21) and Skyler Smith (20:22) placed 21st and 22nd, respectively.

The Laker girls managed their third-place team finish with a group of only six runners, and no upperclassmen - just four freshmen and two sophomores. They finished with 22 points, while Bret Harte won with 26 points and Santa Catalina was second with 24.

Sophomore Tara Gallant finished runner-up to Michelle Watkins of Pacific Grove, posting a time of 21:23 to Watkins' 20:17, while Laker teammate Ingrid Roske was ninth in 25:15.

In the freshmen race, North Tahoe's Sophia Tallarigo won the overall in 22:34. The Lakers' Kaya Williams was fourth in 23:39, Holly Lewis was 14th in 26:36 and Erica Backus was 17th in 29:38.

UP NEXT: The Lakers are scheduled to compete in the Elko Invitational on Friday.
