Get your lederhosen ready: Village Center's 7th annual Oktoberfest is Saturday

INCLINE VILLAGE, Nev. - Get into the spirit of fall - and enjoy some German food and beer while you're at it - by visiting the Village Center this Saturday for the seventh annual Oktoberfest and Community Fair.Eric and Danielle Halstead of Village Meats will serve up all the fixins with German food and brats, and you can enjoy a beer from Rhonda Brockelsby at Bar Bar Bar, or sample one of Ron Stanger's German wines from Village Market."We like to support community causes and have a good time with locals," said Eric Halstead, owner of Village Meats, "C'mon down and enjoy one of my homemade brats."Oktoberfest attendees will be treated to live music from Bigg Funn, a band that plays a variety of tunes in a family-friendly fun format. Big Funn - sponsored by Dress the Part(y) - is headed by "Big Joy" Michiel and her husband Steve, who, along with other seasoned musicians, deliver a high-energy performance of everything from country and old time rock-n-roll to 80s pop classics. They also inject a healthy dose of comedy with song parodies, magic, hilarious characters and even spoon playing.

The Community Fair is a giant collaboration of crafters, nonprofits and businesses organized to support Tahoe Family Solutions, the region's premier nonprofit dedicated to helping families and children through programs in education, counseling and camping.New this year, Tahoe SAFE Alliance is doing a modified version of the awareness building activity "In Their Own Words." Participants will be entered in TSA's raffle to win tickets to the annual Chocolate, Wine and Roses festival at the Hyatt.A number of other nonprofits will be represented, including Incline Community Business Association, Wylie Animal Rescue Foundation, Sierra Nevada College, Marine 9 and American Red Cross. The North Lake Tahoe Fire Protection District and Incline Village Community Hospital will offer flu shots all day for $20, and IVGID Recreation is sponsoring a bounce house and will have information on their programs.Also, at the Arts & Crafts Fair, a variety of items from many returning participants will be on sale, including: Norma Buller's oil painting and acrylics; Ethan's custom greeting cards, Kathie's gourd pumpkins, Peggy Harrison's knitted items, Bill Cox's wooden candles and others.

Win a $600 42-inch flat screen TV, donated by Village Center owner Art Hoff, at the raffle prize drawing sponsored by local businesses, and Century 21 McGregor Realty has donated another grand prize of $100.All the proceeds from ticket sales go to Tahoe Family Solutions. ICBA is coordinating the raffle with many other prizes coming from Incline businesses, Village Center merchants and Community Fair participants. Raffle tickets can be purchased at the event, and the drawing will be held throughout the day.Other special activities include:• Older kids will enjoy the first ever "haunted house" in the Toccata Center, sponsored by Postal Express.• Dress the Part(y), event sponsor, will have a Halloween tent sale and encourages everyone to shop local for Halloween this year.• Several Village Center merchants will offer event specials encouraging everyone to stroll down their storefront boardwalks on that day. Be sure to stop in Awareness Village, M Studio, Bourgeois Interior Design, Sierra Verde and the TFS Thrift Store for their specials, too.Village Center is located at the corner of Southwood and Mays in Incline Village.
