I'd like to respond to Ms. Darabi's "My Turn" editorial. First of all, as a resident of Prosser Heights, I'd like to point out that there is, in fact, something around the Community Center, to wit: the apartment complexes on Henness Road and near Pioneer Trail and the residents of Prosser Heights.
I suspect that most of the residents of these areas, like my family, cannot avail themselves of the three pools in Tahoe Donner, the clubhouse at Northstar, the pools at Squaw Valley and Squaw Creek, or the gated community at Lahontan, either because they cannot afford the gas or admission, or because they are not members.
She should certainly utilize those pools to which she has access, in good health. That does not entitle her to deny access to those residents who are not so fortunate.
Secondly, the measure is not just for a community pool, but also for a performing arts center. Since performing arts are integral to "culture," I think that aspect is covered nicely. I agree that a larger library would be desirable; that is apparently a community asset which is being advanced by a different group, with their own plans.
I support Measure J, and will look forward to utilizing the new facilities, should the measure pass and the facilities successfully built.
