Donald E. (Ben) Hedges passed away October 6, 2012 at his home in Incline Village, Nevada of a massive heart attack.Ben, as he was always known, was born July 23. 1936 to Ivan and Alice Hedges in Iowa City, Iowa. He graduated from Iowa City High School in 1954, where he excelled in football, baseball, and basketball.He went on to graduate from the University of Iowa in 1958 with a Bachelor's Degree in Business.Ben and Margo Stoewer were married in 1955 and they had three children.After graduation Ben worked for Metropolitan Life Insurance until 1965 when he joined the Winegard Antenna Company headquartered in Burlington, Iowa. Ben and his family lived in Kansas City, Missouri until he was transferred to Southern California as a Regional Manager in 1967. Sherri Goble from Burlington, Iowa was transferred to Southern California as Office Manager with the Winegard Company at the same time.Ben and Sherri were married in 1973 and continued to work for the Winegard Company until 1986 when they franchised the Incline Village 7-Eleven in Lake Tahoe.In 2002 they opened Grumpy's Saloon & Eatery in Incline Village.In 2007 Ben sold Grumpy's and became partners in the Big Water Grille in Incline Village with John Cheney, Kenny Kinsman, and Jerry Stokes.Ben loved sports and was a loyal fan of the LA Dodgers and the LA Rams. He loved to cook for his family and friends. Many have been grateful recipients of his ham and scalloped potatoes, Ham and beans, fried chicken, and fudge at Christmas time.Ben is survived by his wife Sherri, and two children, daughter, Christine Belben (Kirk) of Butte Valley, California, and son, John Hedges (Chere) of Folsom, California. His grandchildren, Abagail Whittaker, Leah Garcia, Joel Belben, Joseph Hedges and Brooke Hedges.Ben lost his oldest son, Michael Hedges in July 2011.Ben will always be remembered for his kindness and generosity in caring for all the people he loved. He will also be remembered for "stirring the pot" and his spoon will be passed down to his "Partners in Crime" Billy Stroud, Gary Pulver, and Chuck La Rock.A Celebration of Life will be held at the Big Water Grille, 341 Ski Way, Incline Village, Nevada on Saturday, November 3rd at 1pm.
