NLTFPD: Prescribed burning season under way

INCLINE VILLAGE, Nev. - The North Lake Tahoe Fire Protection District planned kicked off prescribed burning this week, officials said, and the burns will continue through the fall depending on weather conditions, as well as local regional resource availability.

"If the weather conditions are within prescription perimeters, conditions might lend themselves to the Fire District's first burn of the season (this) week," said NLTFPD Division Chief Norb Szczurek in a press release.

The fire district wants to assure residents that if any of several conditions that must be met in order to conduct a controlled burn is not within prescription, the district will not move forward with a projected burn.

For folks who are smoke sensitive, the district recommends shutting all doors and windows and remaining inside as much as possible until any lingering smoke has dissipated.

For information, visit the district's website at, or call 775-831-0351, ext. 0, to speak with someone in person.
