North Tahoe, Truckee golf | Daniels, Johnson record top finishes at state

North Tahoe sophomores Kylie Daniels and Abii Johnson both earned top-10 finishes at the Division III/IV State High School Girls Golf Championship at Eagle Valley East Golf Course in Carson City on Monday and Tuesday.

Truckee junior Taylor Pugh, meanwhile, was the sole representative of the Wolverines in the Division I-A State Championship, which was held Monday and Tuesday at Wildcreek Golf Course in Sparks.

Daniels shot a 109 on the first day and came through with a clutch 94 on the second to record a fifth-place finish with a two-day score of 203. Johnson fired a 106 and a 102, for a final score of 208 over the 5,348-yard, par-72 course. That was good enough for seventh overall.

Devi Meyers of Incline won the individual state title, posting a two-day score of 189 (91-98). Meyers' win helped propel the Highlanders to the team championship as well, with a two-day total of 868 to runner-up Wells' 870. Both schools were tied at 427 after Day 1, but Incline was two strokes better on Day 2.

Battle Mountain was third at 944, followed by West Wendover at 1,096. The top two teams from the North and South advanced, as well as the top three individuals from non-qualifying teams.

Pugh finished 36th overall in the Division I-A championship. She shot a 132 and a 133 (265) over the 5,575-yard, par-72 Wildcreek course.

Brianna Becker of Faith Lutheran won the individual title, shooting a 68 and 73 for a winning score of 141, which was seven strokes better than teammate Anne Freman. Faith Lutheran, which swept the top three individually, won the team title with ease, posting a score of 624 to second-place Elko's 791. Clark was third at 808, followed by Lowry (820), Spring Creek (861) and SECTA (1,053).
