Lake Tahoe weather: Snow expected to taper off by midday Tuesday

TAHOE/TRUCKEE - A winter storm warning remains in effect for the greater Truckee/Tahoe region until 11 a.m. Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service in Reno.

An additional 2 or more inches of snow is expected above 7,000 feet, according to NWS, before the season's first storm tapers into flurries this afternoon.

Chain and snowtire restrictions are in effect among most regional highways, including Nevada highways 50 and 28; California highways 28, 89 and 267 and Interstate 80 through Truckee.

Regional ski resorts are rejoicing with the 2012-13 season's first storm, with many reporting more than a foot had fallen as of Monday; snowfall totals as of Tuesday morning have not yet been published.
