Incline Village continues to shine red as 2012 vote looms

INCLINE VILLAGE, Nev. - Incline Village continues to be a Republican-heavy community when it comes to registered voters for the 2012 presidential election.

According to the Washoe County Registrar of Voters, of the 7,270 Incline/Crystal Bay residents who registered to vote in the 2012 presidential election, 3,189 did so as Republicans, with 2,140 registering as Democrats, representing a roughly 44 percent to 30 percent difference. About 19 percent of those registered (1,386) did so under no party affiliation.

The numbers aren't too far off from the 2008 election, according to previous reports, when there were 7,474 registered voters in Incline/Crystal Bay. Of that total, 3,485 (roughly 47 percent) were registered Republicans and 2,294 (roughly 31 percent) were Democrats. Further, 1,225 (16 percent) were nonpartisan.

While things appear steady at Tahoe, things nearly couldn't be more purple regarding Washoe County as a whole.

The most recent numbers as of Oct. 22 indicate 241,312 registered voters. Of that total, 91,918 are Republican (38.1 percent), while 90,726 are Democrat (37.6 percent).

These most recent numbers are up slightly from initial estimates last week of 241,400 voters, which officials indicated was an all-time high for registered voters in Washoe County, up from the record of roughly 231,400 for the General Election in 2008.

Early voting in Nevada this year began Saturday, Oct. 20, and runs through Friday, Nov. 2.

Washoe County experienced record voter turnout the first weekend of early voting, officials said this week, with total weekend ballots cast during early voting surpassed the first weekend in the 2008 presidential election by 60.2 percent. Ballots cast last weekend totaled 14,475, compared to 9,036 in 2008. In 2008, 56 percent of voters cast their ballots during early voting.

Locally, residents can cast their early ballots at the Incline Village Library between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. on Saturdays, Tuesdays-Thursdays and Friday, Nov. 2. Early voting is closed Sundays, Mondays and on Nevada Day.

Residents can utilize early voting at all 22 county locations during the period. Visit www.co.washoe.nv.us/voters/ 12EVSchedule.htm for detailed early voting information at the other locations.
