1,000 - a whole lot of Pine Nuts for Tahoe's McAvoy Layne

INCLINE VILLAGE, Nev. - McAvoy Layne this week filed his 1,000th Pine Nuts column, a weekly Twainesque observation filled with humor, wisdom and opinion.Pine Nuts was first - and always has been - published in the North Lake Tahoe Bonanza, and a former reporter for the Incline Village paper, Guy Clifton, is puoring though the 1,000 columns to compile a book of his favorites. The goal is to have the book ready within six months with proceeds of its sales going to the nonprofit Parasol Tahoe Community Foundation.Layne spoke to Lake Tahoe Action about his landmark filing on Oct. 19, the 100-year anniversary of his father's birth. Exactly 25 years earlier, during the elder Layne's birthday celebration, Layne impersonated Twain for the first time."I excused myself during dinner and went in the men's room and threw baby powder in my hair and came back as somebody else," Layne said. "Little did I know that I would never be that nervous again."Here's the interview:
