Three Truckee businesses cited in underage tobacco sting

TRUCKEE, Calif. - Three local stores recently received citations for illegally selling tobacco products to minors, officials announced Friday.

Truckee Police Department officers, in conjunction with the Nevada County Tobacco Use Prevention Project, recently conducted an underage tobacco purchase operation in Truckee, according to a TPD press release.

In all, 17 merchant locations were contacted; citations were issued to the responsible clerks at the following stores who sold tobacco products to the under-18 purchasers used for the operation:

• Union 76 gas station at 10041 Donner Pass Road.

• 7-Eleven store at 11400 Donner Pass Road.

• Z Marketplace at 12716 Northwoods Blvd.

Truckee Police and the Nevada County Tobacco Use Prevention Project had conducted a non-enforcement sting in July, when each store location was sent a letter advising of their compliance after the operation.

"The purpose of the July operation was that of a survey to determine the level of compliance of local merchants in verifying the age of the purchaser before selling tobacco products," officials said in the press release.

Truckee Police will conduct periodic future tobacco operations and take enforcement action as appropriate, according to the press release.
