Volunteers lend at hand at Keep Sierra Clean Day

More than 250 community members volunteered at Sierra-at-Tahoe Resort on Oct. 21 for Keep Sierra Clean Day.

More than 1,400 pounds of trash was brought in off the slopes, including two snowboards, a few skis, a GoPro, a digital camera, a Blackberry and water gun. Plastic bottles, cans, trail fencing, and signs were also collected. Sierra-at-Tahoe Resort employees spend both the winter and summer months cleaning up the base area and parking lots, but looked to volunteers to help clean up the mountains.

"We're lucky to have such a loyal camaraderie of guests who care deeply enough about the environment to come up here on a Sunday and help us clean it up," Sierra Resort General Manager John Rice stated in a press release. "It's important for skiers and riders to be good stewards of the environment, because they depend on it for their winter fun."
