TRUCKEE, Calif. - The 2nd Annual Truckee Dodgeball Tournament presented by FiftyFifty Brewing Co., the High Fives Foundation and Northwestern Mutual - Ryan Williams raised more than $1,200 for the High Fives Foundation's Winter Empowerment Program Service Fund. The event took place at the Truckee Tahoe Airport on Sunday, Oct. 21.
The championship Growler Cup trophy, crafted by Darkside Metal Design in Truckee, was taken home by the Sugar Bowl Academy team, led by local professional skier Daron Rahlves. Participants and spectators, enjoyed beverages from the FiftyFifty Brewing Co., as well as sushi from Mamasake Squaw's Food Truck.
"Funds raised at the Tournament will allow High Fives to continue to positively impact the lives of injured winter action sports athletes in a meaningful way," said Roy Tuscany, High Fives Foundation co-founder and president. "It is my goal to raise addition funds for the Foundation through High Fives' events and continue to identify ways to support injured athletes in need."
The Winter Empowerment Program Service Fund provides financial support to injured winter action sports athletes, assisting them through the recovery process. Additionally, the Fund helps injured athletes achieve their goals in order to thrive as disabled athletes participating in winter adaptive sports.
To date, the Winter Empowerment Fund has assisted 33 athletes in eight respective funding categories which include: living expenses, insurance, travel, health, High Fives Healing Network, adaptive equipment, winter equipment, programs and stoke (positive energy, outlook and attitude).
The next High Fives Foundation fundraising event will be High Fives on Tap at the Alchemist Brewery in Waterbury, Vt., on Oct. 28 at 2 p.m. (EST). Advance tickets can be purchased at www.highfivesfoundation.org.
