Washoe Dems, GOP voters almost even as early voting nears close

INCLINE VILLAGE, Nev. - More than 75,000 voters in Washoe County have already cast their ballots prior to the General Election on Nov. 6, officials said Tuesday. Early voting began Oct. 20 and concludes Friday, Nov. 2 at 7 p.m.

"We've had 75,040 ballots cast at the 22 early voting locations in our community," said Washoe County Senior Deputy Registrar Luanne Cutler in a Tuesday statement. "And people still have until Friday, Nov. 2 to vote early."

The latest totals as of Tuesday showed 31,471 Democrats, 30,265 Republicans and 13,304 non-partisan voters had cast their ballots early. After Friday's deadline, all qualified voters who wish to cast a ballot for the Nov. 6 General Election will have to do so on Election Day and at their assigned polling place.

Any voter who is unsure of their voting eligibility or where they are assigned to vote on Election Day can visit www.washoecounty.us/voters, and on the appropriate lines enter their last name and date-of-birth to confirm their voting eligibility, get their precinct number and assigned Election Day polling place information and see a map showing where their polling place is located in relation to their residence.

On Election Day, polls are open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. If you're a registered voter in Incline Village, you must vote within your precinct location. The following are Incline Village/Crystal Bay precincts:

• Aspen Grove, 960 Lakeshore Blvd. - 8107, 8109, 8111, 8125, 8126

• Incline Elementary School, 915 Northwood Blvd. - 8105, 8106, 8108, 8110

• Incline Middle School, 931 Southwood Blvd. - 8104, 8116, 8117

Voters who have requested an absentee ballot, voted that ballot and sent it back to the Registrar of Voters office can get information verifying the date their voted ballot was received. If a voter does not have access to online services, they may call the ROV office at 775-328-3670.

There are four major local races in which Incline/Crystal Bay residents can vote in this presidential election year.

In regard to the Incline Village General Improvement District Board of Trustees, three seats are open - those of Bea Epstein, Ted Fuller and Chuck Weinberger. Fuller and Weinberger are outgoing trustees.

Voters are asked to choose 3 of the following 6 candidates: Jim Smith, Jim Hammerel, George Del Carlo, Bill Devine, Epstein (incumbent) and Tim Callicrate.

Back in June, these six candidates and four others battled in a primary. Below is a tally of the number of votes and the percentage of the overall total each of the six finalists received in the June 12 primary:

• Smith: 1,090 (19.42%)

• Hammerel: 948 (16.89%)

• Del Carlo: 906 (16.14%)

• Devine: 689 (12.28%)

• Epstein: 605 (10.78%)

• Callicrate: 450 (8.02%)

There are five candidates for three seats on the North Lake Tahoe Fire Protection District Board of Trustees. The open seats are those held by Chris Plastiras, Dale Smith and Wayne Fischer - Plastiras is the lone outgoing director.

Voters are asked to choose 3 of the following 5 candidates: Smith (incumbent), Fischer (incumbent), Paul Zahler, Steve King and Chris May.

At the county level, Seat No. 1 in the Washoe County Commission is up, as current commissioner John Breternitz opted to not file for re-election. Seat No. 1 includes Incline/Crystal Bay, and the race is between Marsha Berkbigler, a Republican; and Andrew Diss, a Democrat.

As for the Washoe County School District Board of Trustees District A seat - which includes Incline/Crystal Bay - outgoing trustee Dan Carne will be replaced by either Lisa Ruggerio or Dale Richardson.
