Both Incline soccer teams capped the regular season with 2-0 wins against visiting North Tahoe last Thursday to secure No. 1 playoff seeds.
For the first time ever, there will be separate Division III postseason tournaments - as opposed to the DIII and DI-A (formerly 2A and 3A) competing in combined tourneys - and Incline will host the Northern regional this Friday and Saturday.
Incline's boys, which finished the regular season 11-8-1 overall and 6-4 in Mount Rose League play, will open the tournament with a semifinal game against fourth-seeded North Tahoe on Friday at 5 p.m.
Due to an oddly constructed power rankings system used to determine postseason seedings, the North Tahoe boys barely made playoffs as the fourth seed, despite the Lakers routing one of the higher-ranked teams, third-seeded Yerington, and splitting with the other, second-seeded Whittell. So the Highlanders figure to have a relatively easy regional title game if they can get past the Lakers.
Whittell and Yerington square off in the other semifinal game Friday at 1 p.m. Winners meet for the regional title Saturday at 5 p.m. A consolation final is scheduled for 1 p.m.
Incline's girls (15-6 overall, 6-4 league) will open the regional tournament against fourth-seeded White Pine, which edged North Tahoe for the final seed based on the power rankings, on Friday at 3 p.m.
On the other side of the bracket, second-seeded Whittell and third-seeded Pershing County play Friday at 11 a.m. The regional championship game is Saturday at 3 p.m., with a consolation final at 11 a.m.
The Division III state championship tournaments are scheduled for Friday and Saturday, Nov. 9-10, at Heritage Park in Henderson. The top three Northern teams advance, while only one Southern team will be represented.
