South Lake Tahoe City Council incumbent Hal Cole and challenger JoAnn are poised to take two seats on the council following early returns from Tuesday's election.
Conner led all of the five candidates for two council seats, receiving 1,108 votes, in vote-by-mail results released by the El Dorado County Elections Department just after 8 p.m. Tuesday. Cole trailed Conner slightly in the initial results, receiving 1,082 votes.
Challenger Austin Sass sat in third place following the release of the initial results. Cole led Sass by 131 votes. Incumbent Bruce Grego stood in fourth place, trailing Cole by 348 votes.
Support for challenger Clinton Schue lagged well behind the other candidates. He received 390 votes, or just more than 9 percent of votes in the initial results.
The top two vote-getters will be sworn in next month.
