Retired sheriff's captain to present lecture

Retired Washoe County Sheriff's Office Capt. Doug Gist will present the Douglas County Historical Society's November lecture on Nov. 8.

Gist spent 19 years as a member of the Honor Guard, paying respects to officers who had made the ultimate sacrifice. He also served as the agency's unofficial historian and researched, collected and shared the history of the Sheriff's Office with others, teaching in the academy and making presentations to groups on behalf of the sheriff.

In 2007, Gist brought together a group of friends and fellow law enforcement honor guard members and unleashed a vision of creating a national focus law enforcement museum in the Reno area. In July of 2009, the Silver State National Peace Officers Museum opened its doors. During his lecture, Gist will speak about the museum.

The lecture will begin at 7 p.m. at the Carson Valley Museum and Cultural Center, 1477 Hwy 395 N., in Gardnerville, Nev. Admission costs $3 and is free to members. Call 782-2555 for more information.
