Village Notes: What's happening in our community

INCLINE VILLAGE, Nev. - I am looking forward to another small snow event this week but hoping that a real snow event will soon arrive. It is time to turn Tahoe into a winter wonderland for all to enjoy during Thanksgiving. Please bring on the pray for snow parties.

Monday is Veterans Day and many businesses will be closed for the day including IVGID offices and the Parasol Tahoe Community Foundation. If you happen to be in Reno on Saturday, several restaurants are hosting a tip-a-vet fundraiser for local vets and programs. The Incline High JROTC will be participating in the annual Veterans Day Parade in Virginia City on Sunday. Please take time to thank our veterans - Incline Village is very lucky to have a large population of veterans. And don't forget those currently on duty, again we have many serving. Thank you veterans.

In case you have not noticed, the Toys for Tots collection barrels are out and unwrapped new toys can be dropped in the barrels now. Check out next week's Bonanza for a list of all the local giving programs in our area during the holidays.

The Tahoe Nevada Chapter of the AAUW is hosting Eric James, Commander of UNR Police Services, on Wednesday, Nov. 14 at its meeting at the Donald W. Reynolds Community Non-Profit Center. Commander James will be teaching a women's self-defense class and explaining the Rape Aggression Defense class. This is open to the public and the cost is $26 per person for the dinner and program. Reservations are needed by Monday, Nov. 12 to cindyfrei@gmail.com or Barbara at 775-832-6977.

Lots of local bowlers headed down to Carson Lanes last weekend to participate in the State Seniors Bowling Tournament - Ronnie Rector, Mike Forstrom, Donna Haney, Patty Smevik, Susan Herron, Dave Smevik, Budd Milazzo and Anthony Saraceno. It has been reported that some high scores were bowled but since the tournament continues this weekend it will be a while before final results are available. Still time for other Incline senior bowlers to participate. Just go to ccusbc.net for information.

Welcome to our village to Kirk, Missi, Sierra, Symone, Shylee and Cael Hankla.

Happy Anniversary to Ed and Emy Gurowitz on Nov. 10.

Birthdays this week include: Cody Martin and Diana Robb on Nov. 10; Nicholas Brown, Mike Drysdale, John Filippini and Bryan Timonere on Nov. 13; Ron Birmingham, Katie Ferrall and Victoria McCunn on Nov. 14. Happy birthday!

The best deal or steal this week is to attend one of the state soccer events featuring both the boys and girls teams on Friday in Vegas. A great opportunity to see some exciting games and cheer for our local athletes. Girls play at 3 p.m. followed by the boys. Go Highlanders!

As always send in your birthdays, anniversaries and news, along with the best deals and steals you can find, to jeanmeick@aol.com.
