Fallen heroes honored in Truckee

TRUCKEE, Calif. - On Nov. 3, 2012, the Sierra Nevada, CA12 chapter of the Blue Star Mothers of America dedicated plaques for two fallen Marines who made the ultimate sacrifice: 1st Lt. Nathan Krissoff, who gave his life on Dec. 9, 2006 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Sgt. Phillip A. Bocks, who perished on Nov. 9, 2007 in support of Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan.

The event was held at the Veterans Building in Truckee. The dedication was the culmination of months of negotiating; finding the appropriate location; fundraising to cover the cost to purchase the plaques and having them installed with the help of two local Truckee businesses.

Contractor Bill Kelly of Kelly Brothers, Inc. of Truckee volunteered his services to the Blue Star Mothers of America, California, Chapter 12, installing the plaques.

Brady Thayer asked about the plaques when he saw them in the Kelly Brothers, Inc. office. Thayer served in the Army and was deployed to Iraq at the same time as these soldiers. Thayer asked if he could assist in the installation, as it would be an honor.

The chapter plans on a similar dedication in Grass Valley for three additional plaques dedicated to fallen heroes.
