South Lake Tahoe police arrested a 41-year-old Rancho Cordova man on suspicion of numerous crimes after he allegedly led police on a 20-minute, slow-speed chase through the Springwood Tract neighborhood Saturday night.
Police received a report of a suspicious vehicle on the 900 block of Comstock Way about 8:25 p.m. Saturday. When they arrived, they allegedly found a white Ford Taurus driven by Daniel Efird III. When police attempted to stop the vehicle, Efird drove away, allegedly leading police in circles through the neighborhood, Lt. David Stevenson said.
The chase did not top 20 mph, but Efird allegedly reversed into a police vehicle at one point during the chase, causing minor damage, according to police. Efird eventually yielded to police about 8:45 p.m., Stevenson said.
He was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, failing to obey a police officer, obstructing police, driving under the influence and driving on a suspended license.
Efird remained in custody at El Dorado County Jail in South Lake Tahoe Thursday afternoon. It is unknown whether he has an attorney.
