After three exciting games, the Truckee Tsunamis took first place at the Cookie's Best Tournament in Carson City on Oct. 20.
The Tsunamis are from the AYSO U-10 Boys Division and were nominated to represent Truckee in the tournament by all coaches within each division based on sportsmanship, improvement and overall record.
After an undefeated regular season, the Tsunamis went on to beat Carson Valley 3-1 and Mammoth 5-0 in the first flight of games. Next they were on to the championship game against South Lake Tahoe, which they defeated by a 4-1 score to end their season unbeaten.
The victories were made possible through the great defense and goalkeeping of Logan Pruski, Trevor Stockham, Cody Flynn, Ayden Luther and Jonny Valdivia. The midfield was held down by Kalani Taylor, Brennan Berg and newcomer to Truckee Noah Scalzo, who showed their Truckee pride with their great hustle and ability to shut down opposing passing games.
The offensive effort was led by Josh Lopez with his great passing and footwork, Juan Arroyo with his tenacious dribbling and Cody Flynn with his multiple goals and assists. Overall, the group showed how far they have progressed as a team and why hard work and positive attitude can lead to great accomplishments.
As coach Craig Pruski has said all season, "a team that hustles is hard to beat," and the boys proved it on the field.
The Tsunamis, coached by Pruski and Sean Flynn, also qualified to travel to the Northern California AYSO tournament in Foster City in December.
