The pride of Truckee AYSO demonstrated its strength at the Kit Carson All Stars 2012 invitational tournament this past weekend at the Edmonds Field Complex in Carson City.
Out of 70 teams in the area, four of the Truckee teams made it to the championship, with the U10 Boys Tornadoes coached by Jason Wooley and Mike Staudenmayer taking first place.
The U10 Boys Tornados swept their division en route to their title. After being named on the all-star team, the boys had two weeks to practice and learn how to play as a team.
They came together and played like they had been playing together forever with their passing and assisting skills reflecting this on the field. The team recorded two shutouts in four nail-biting games, and only allowed a goal apiece in the other two games.
Going into the final game against Bishop, also undefeated in the tournament, the Tornadoes unleashed a storm of fast, aggressive play, controlling the ball most of the game and finishing with a 3-0 victory to secure enough points to take first place in their division.
The other three Truckee teams in the tournament finished second, including the U12 Girls Lightning coached by Doug Dalicandro and Rob Koster, the U15 Girls Tornadoes coached by Dave Robertson and Mike Brown, and the U15 Boys Lightning coached by Doug Dalicandro and Matt Hippler.
The U15 Girls Tornadoes were made up of Luca Belden, Maria Blanco, Yessica Blanco, Jordan Brown, Mia Curtis, Maria Duran, Anne Guerra, Jennifer Martinez, Lily Robertson, Hyla Staudenmayer, Lindsay Steinmaus, Hayli Stewart, Alexandra Tinsley and Rebecca Ziegler.
The U15 Boys Lightning were Jesse Aves, Jorge Bravo, David Dalicandro, Hugo Gutierrez, Jaden Hippler, Benjamin Miller, Pedro Nunez, Paul Cade, Randy Ruiz-Meneses, Raymond Soltero, Slater Stewart, Luis Valdez, Jason Vazquez and Justin Wadsworth.
