Norma Marie Gilbertson, 89, passed away on Monday, November 5, 2012 at her home in South Lake Tahoe, CA.Norma was born November 12, 1922 to Peter and Elizabeth Trost Michels in Elkton, SD. She was the fourth of four children.In 1935, the family moved to Sioux Falls, SD where Norma graduated from Cathedral High School in 1941. She married Gordon Gilbertson (deceased) in December 1942. They had one child, Diana Jeanne, who tragically died of cancer on August 4, 1970.Norma enjoyed a long and successful career over 30 years as a supervisor with AT&T that began in Sioux Falls and continued when she moved to San Gabriel, CA in 1955. She retired in 1981 having made many friendships that continue to this day. Shortly after retiring she moved to Lake Tahoe where she enjoyed the natural beauty of the area and her community of friends and neighbors. Norma was very generous sharing her time and resources with people and organizations she cared about, including her church, St. Theresa Catholic Church where she was a member for over 30 years. She supported other groups that included Boys Town, the Humane Society, Soroptimist International Tahoe Sierra, and a variety of Veterans charities.Norma loved life and lived it to the fullest. In her younger years, she enjoyed traveling and also made a name for herself as a gifted bowler. She loved animals and enjoyed the company of her dog “Boomer” for many years.Norma is survived by her brother Franklin Michels, her grandson Christopher Hamm and his siblings, Jeffrey Hamm and Jennifer Rohrback, as well as seven great grandchildren. She is also survived by her “Tahoe Family” Richard and Sheila Danna, Barrett and Corinne Stitt, and many friends. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.The Funeral Mass & memorial service will be held at St. Theresa Catholic Church in South Lake Tahoe, CA on Saturday, November 17, 2012 at 1:00 pm.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lake Tahoe Humane Society.
