Santa Barbara City College linebacker and 2011 Truckee High grad Morgan Nevin earned Defensive Player of the Week honors this past week in the American Pacific Conference.
The 6-foot, 220-pound freshman recorded 15 tackles, eight solo, in a 20-13 loss to Antelope Valley in a first-place showdown last Friday. He had a sack and two tackles for a loss.
Nevin has 70 tackles in six games, while his 11.7 average and 118 total tackles rank No. 1 in the Southern California Football Association.
Santa Barbara lineman Stephen Brooks had 13 tackles and safety Colin Christian, also a 2011 Truckee grad, had 12 tackles.
Christian ranks 13th in the Southern California Football Association with 80 tackles, while former Truckee teammate Mitch Nelson ranks 22nd with 73. Jackson Weed, a 2010 Truckee grad, also has started for the Vaqueros this season but missed a few games with an injury.
The Vaqueros, who were winless last year, are 3-3 overall and 2-1 in conference play entering Friday's home game against host L.A. Pierce.
