Heavenly and Kirkwood to open more terrain

Heavenly, Kirkwood and Northstar are each expected to open additional terrain to skiing and snowboarding ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday weekend.

Kirkwood operators plan to open Chair 6 (Cornice Express) Wednesday with the possibility of Chair 1 (Snowkirk) opening for the holiday weekend, according to a Monday statement from Vail. Chair 8, the Red Cliffs handle tow, will also provide access to beginner terrain.

Heavenly operators plan to open Big Dipper trail and also plans to expand to Comet trail and Comet Express as conditions permit, according to the statement. The left side of California Trail will continue to include a terrain park with jumps, rails and boxes. Heavenly's Ski and Ride School will operate one magic carpet at the top of the Gondola for children.

Northstar plans to offer skiing and riding from the top of the mountain for the holiday weekend, with the Comstock Express lift expected to open. The resort already provides access to beginner and intermediate terrain, a terrain park via five lifts. Exact trail openings will be announced in the coming days.

The resorts have extended the deadline to purchase season passes through Dec. 2.
