TRUCKEE, Calif. - After battling Black Friday and click-crazy Cyber Monday's shopping madness, The Center for Nonprofit Leadership of Nevada County is asking charities, businesses and individuals to embrace another day - #GivingTuesday on Nov. 27.
#GivingTuesday encourages communities to get involved with their local nonprofit organizations, from donating money to volunteering. And nonprofits are asked to connect their fundraising efforts or schedule volunteer projects as part of #GivingTuesday.
The Center for Nonprofit Leadership plans an initiative during the next month to educate the community about the national #GivingTuesday campaign, which started last Thanksgiving in New York City. The Center will post messages about #GivingTuesday on its website, Facebook page and Twitter account, driving people to the www.cnlsierra.org membership page where they can donate online to local membership organizations.
The one-day event has a single goal - make people more aware and active with local nonprofits.
"We want to build an even better Nevada County, and that starts with developing first-rate nonprofits and encouraging community involvement," said Center Chairman Bill Neff. "Giving Tuesday is an excellent way to get people involved and remind them how important nonprofits are to this area."
How can nonprofits participate?
• Make sure your Center membership is current before Nov. 20, ensuring a listing on the member page at cnlsierra.org.
• Promote #GivingTuesday on Facebook and Twitter, and encouraging donations at www.cnlsierra.org.
• Establish an online giving application or link on your website, which greatly increases the likelihood for donations.
• Visit www.GivingTuesday.org for more information and ideas about how to get involved.
Nonprofits interested in the Center and #GivingTuesday may call 530-265-5600 or email firstname.lastname@example.org to become a member or check their membership status and ensure the listing as part of #GivingTuesday.
