Natural High Club goes paintballing

TRUCKEE, Calif. - On Friday, Nov. 9, the Friday Night Live: Natural High Club from Truckee High School took 16 students paintballing at Reno Indoor Paintball. The students all received a professional lesson from owner Larry Kawaga and spent the next three hours learning to strategize as a team and use a marker responsibly. At closing time, the teens were tired but happy, and covered in many shades of colorful paint.

The Friday Night Live: Natural High Club has a twofold purpose. One, to provide fun activities for teens on Friday nights; and two, to educate students and the community on the importance of being drug and alcohol free. Last year the students presented to the school board the importance of wanting to change the Truckee culture in order to roll model a drug and alcohol free environment for our youth.

The board voted unanimously to support Parent Committed and to provide a link on both the THS and TTUSD website where parents can sign a pledge promising not to host underage parties in their home that includes drugs and alcohol. This link takes you to TT-FWDD (Tahoe Truckee- Future without Drug Dependence), a coalition funded by a drug-free grant to help youth find alternatives to drugs and alcohol, like Friday Night Live. Additionally, this forward thinking group of teens is in the process of starting Athlete Committed this year.

This program would teach athletes the importance of keeping their bodies healthy all year and ask them to sign a drug and alcohol free pledge that would then be put up at the high school for all to admire. Lastly, the group has just finished putting drug and alcohol free ads together for 101.5. Please tune in and hear what our youth have to say.
