TAHOE CITY, Calif. - It takes a village sometimes to get things done, and the "village" of North Tahoe came together to help out our local kids' athletic programs Friday, Nov. 16 at the Boatworks Mall in Tahoe City. More than 350 guests attended the North Tahoe Booster Club's annual Elegant Affair - a fun and social evening of food and wine tasting - which is the club's annual fundraiser to promote and support North Tahoe Laker Athletics. Through its financial support and volunteer efforts the club assists athletic programs at both the middle school and high school of North Tahoe, ensuring that athletics are a valuable experience for all students.
As tradition would have it, there was some wet weather, but that did not dampen the spirits of guests and the volunteers serving from the restaurants and wineries. The Elegant Affair traditionally signifies the opening of the North Tahoe holiday season, and everyone looked elegant indeed in his and her sartorial finery for the evening of sipping and savoring. Cindy Robbins and Jeff "Ox" of Sunnyside went the extra mile garnering 28 wineries, two breweries, the Coffee Connexion, and 21 local restaurants to participate in the event.
In addition to approximately $22,000 (final figures were not in at press time) that was raised just at the event that evening, the Kiwanis Club of North Tahoe presented the club with a donation of $8,275. Gary Furumoto also presented an additional $1,000 check to the club in addition to a $5,000 check previously given to the club from the Chris Park Memorial Fund.
Wonderful background music was provided by Remmel Wilson and friends, and Eric "T" (Brandt) presided as the emcee. Afterward many revved up attendees headed over to Wolfdale's for some more sipping and dancing to the music of the Trey Stone Band. Since the Booster Club began in 2004 more than $400,000 has been donated to the sports programs of North Tahoe. There are many levels of annual memberships.
