Village Notes: What's happening in our community

INCLINE VILLAGE, Nev. - Happy Thanksgiving! To all of you traveling, safe travels and if anyone is still looking for a place to celebrate Thanksgiving today head over to the Community Thanksgiving Potluck at the North Tahoe Event Center in Kings Beach. If you really want to indulge in the Black Friday madness - it is actually beginning on Thursday night at many places - please try to do some of your shopping locally. Our local shops and businesses can always use a boost from the locals. And if you want to give something that will last long after the sales for Black Friday, check out the Wish List in today's paper.

Time to start with the Pray for Snow Parties. Diamond Peak will open on Dec. 13, but we need a little cooperation from Mother Nature now. Let's get it at it Tahoe!

This long weekend is a great opportunity to pick up extra toys for the Toys for Tots collection barrels. Look for the barrels placed around the village. Also barrels are out for nonperishable food items for Project MANA.

Don't forget to pick up tickets now for the special Mark Twain Celebration, "Secrets to Longevity." This event is from 6-8:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 30, at the IVGID Rec. Center. Speaking of the Rec. Center, it is celebrating its 20th Anniversary. Celebration is from Nov. 30 through Dec. 7. Visit www.inclinerecreation.com or call 775-832-1300 for events scheduled for the celebration.

Brunch with Santa is on Saturday, Dec. 8, at The Chateau. For information and tickets go to www.tahoefamily.org or call Tahoe Family Solutions at 775-298-0004. Tickets can be purchased at The Potlatch, Tahoe Family Solutions located in the Donald W. Reynolds Community Non-Profit Center or at the Rec. Center. IVGID and Tahoe Family Solutions sponsor the event.

Some hurry and get out and about again wishes this week for a couple of beloved locals. We hope to see both Rod Sherman and Don Johnson feeling better and out in the community before long. Best wishes to you both for your continued recoveries from all your friends and neighbors.

We do have some bowling news at last. Several locals placed in the State Senior Bowling Tournament: Dave Smevik (Men's Singles), Ronnie Rector (Women's Singles), Susan Herron and Mike Forstrom (Mixed Doubles). Congratulations bowlers!
