Faith Factor | Deck your spirit at St. Nicholas retreat

TAHOE CITY, Calif. - On Nov. 1, the day after Halloween, amid the unprecedented onslaught of election media, televisions across America delivered the opening rounds in an intensifying eight-week barrage of merchandizing in the name of Christ ... no, Santa ... no, gift-giving as a patriotic duty to the economy and moral obligation to wholesome American values while shopping malls and grocery stores reverberate with carols lauding the Christmas message: glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.

Anyone else want a break?

Ask (and sign up) and ye shall receive:

Join Rev. Jenni Liem for a quiet Advent retreat at Camp Noel Porter in Tahoe City. Beginning with an evening meal on Friday, Dec. 7, Jenni, vicar of St. Nicholas Episcopal Church, will lead personal and communal prayer, meditation, spiritual reading, reflection, devotions and a chance to take a break from decking the halls to deck the spirit instead. The retreat will conclude on Sunday, Dec. 9, with an invitation to join St. Nicholas in celebrating the Holy Eucharist, followed by coffee, confections, and fellowship.

Registration covers accommodation in the newly-redecorated rooms and all meals prepared onsite by a professional chef (with vegetarian and vegan options).

For information or a registration form email info@campnoelporter.org or call 530-583-3014. Registration is limited to 25, and the deadline is Nov. 28.
